Overview to ISO 9001:2008

The need for software companies, to be identified as one that delivers Quality products and services to its customers, has always been there. More so because the customers and buyers across the globe prefer dealing with a company which has been certified or assessed by a third party for their approach to Quality and process framework. That is why standards like ISO 9001: 2008 have become popular. The ISO 9001: 2008 standard has been adopted by many organizations worldwide, including software organizations. It helps organization remain competitive and improve internal capabilities by creating and implementing a robust Quality Management System and implementing the same.

ISO 9001:2008 is a standard for process certification and not for product certification. 

This two-day workshop will include the philosophy, concepts and practice related to the standard. The course shall be in a lecture mode, supplemented with exercises, enriching discussion, query handling and experience sharing attempts to provide a detail overview of ISO 9001:2008 standard as applied to software companies. The exercises included during the course will enable better understanding of the concepts.

Objective of the course

To provide an insight into:

  • the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 standard and the principles and vocabulary which lays the foundation for the standard
  • the changes and similarities to the earlier version of the standard ISO 9001:1994
  • correlation with SW-CMMI® V 1.2
  • the approach for process improvement as per ISO 9004:2000 guidelines
  • a high level roadmap for implementing the standard

The course does not include the details of ISO 9001:1994 version or SW-CMM®. Only compares the two with this standard, at a high level.

Pre-requisite

The participant should have

  • basic level understanding of Quality Assurance concepts
  • software project experience and a general understanding of the purpose of the different departments in the organization
  • Members of the organization that wishes to :
    • achieve ISO 9001:2008 certification transition from ISO 9001:1994 to ISO 9001:2008 version
    • implement ISO 9001:2008, though they are already implementing SW-CMM®
  • Members of the Quality department or the core group or the Management Representative, responsible for enabling/driving the ISO 9001: 2008 implementation in the organization.
  • Any individual who wants to understand the requirements of the standard
